Then

First invented in 1994 by Japanese company Denso Wave, QR codes are a type of two-dimensional barcode. QR codes are commonly used to provide quick and easy access to information about a product or service. To use a QR code, simply scan the code with a QR code scanner (such as a smartphone QR code reader) and the linked information will be displayed. QR codes can be used to store any type of data, including text, numbers, URLs, and even images.

QR stands for "Quick Response," and the code's main purpose is to allow quick, easy access to data. QR codes can store up to 7,089 alphanumeric characters, making them ideal for storing large amounts of information in a small space.

QR codes became increasingly popular in the early 2010s as smartphones became more prevalent. In 2010, QR codes were used to track vehicles during the Calgary Stampede parade, and in 2012 QR codes were used as part of a marketing campaign for the movie The Dark Knight Rises. In 2014, QR codes began to be used more frequently in retail settings as a way for customers to quickly access product information. In recent years, QR codes became most popular in restaurants, allowing for customers to pull up the menu, retail, healthcare, and transportation.

With the advent of smart phones and apps that can read QR codes, it is likely that QR codes will become even more ubiquitous in the years to come.
